Hyperrealism (painting) - The Art and Popular Culture Encyclopedia

Hyperrealism (painting) - The Art and Popular Culture Encyclopedia

This is the best, most thorough and historically concise and accurate definition for what "HYPERREALISM" is in the art realm. I am working on my own thesis work that is a more extensive look into what hyperrealism is and how it works psychologically and physiologically, and when I came upon this I was elated. It's too often that you will come across a "Hyperrealistic" artist who describes their work in their artist statements as having to do with "photographic anomolies", "abstractions", "distortions", and "mis-truths" that are apparent within photographs. By their own definition of their work, they are NOT hyperrealists. I'm so glad that I have found a great resourceful definition of what Hyperrealism is, so that I can refer people to this when they want to find out more about what it is and how it differs from its predicessor "Photorealism".

Please make sure to read this completely. I hold close to my convictions about what Hyperrealism is and how it should be executed and applied in contemporary art, and this is the best definition I've found that ties in everything that needs to be addressed in a complete definition of the genre, mostly because of its simillarities and ambiguous relationship to Photorealism. I hope this resource helps you all understand the realm of art that I work in, so that you may better understand my work as well.
