Panel Discussion about art and social responsibility
The Buell Theatre in Denver will be showing the award-winning musical "Next to Normal", which is about a mother suffering from Bipolar disorder. Before the show, NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) will be having panel discussions about several topics concerning mental illnesses as a way of educating and informing the public. One of those panel discussions will be on Art & Social Responsibility Regarding Mental Illness, which I will be participating in. The discussion is aimed at art and media's portrayal of mental illnesses as negative, and reinforcing inaccurate stigmas. The discussion will be from 5:00 to 6:30, and the show will be running that night at 8:00pm. This is a great opportunity to learn more about mental illnesses and the award-winning musical is something that shouldn't be missed.
